The Bread Thread: Give me your tired, your poor ...

Your huddled masses yearning to eat bread!

Buh?

Yes, folks, as you may know as per my video tour of my new place here in Jilin, I have been furnished with a new bread maker!

So I would like anyone who may read this to email me or leave a comment (go on, it's easy) with a bread recipe.

What kind of bread? Doesn't matter. I'm partial to wheat for sammiches, but I'll go crazy. Just keep in mind my ingredients remain basic and relatively raw: which means flour and eggs are doable, but Bisquick and other such things are unavailable.

So send in any and all bread recipes, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Viva la baguette!

I know this bread isn't that exciting... its your basic French bread... but I do recall us fighting over this kind of bread becuase of how delicious it is :)

Ingredients:1 1/4 cups water
3 cups white bread flour
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tbsp salt
2 tbsp fast rise yeast or 3 tbsp active dry yeast

Directions:

Add the ingredients according to the manufacturer's instructions. Easy French bread lives up to its name by mixing, rising and baking entirely in your machine. If your bread maker doesn't have a French Bread baking cycle, you can use White, Rapid or Delay cycles.

This is a tasty recipe if you like corn bread, but I don't know if you can get all the ingredients...

1 cup of: flour, cornmeal
1/2 cup of sugar
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon of baking soda, baking powder
1/2 cup of milk
1 egg
1/2 cup of butter, margarine OR 1/4 cup of vegetable oil

Mix all the dry ingredients together in one bowl, and mix all the wet ingredients in another bowl. Then slowly pour the dry mixture into the wet stuff as you stir.

Slop it into a greased or nonstick pan, and bake at 400-ish for about 35-45 minutes, or until a toothpick stabbed into it comes out clean.

for fun, add a can of corn (12 or 15 oz can)
yum!
